Our friends in Ukraine

Julia Burlachenko and Oleg Matvieiev write:
Hi, hang gliding community. This is Oleg Matvieiev and Julia Burlachenko from Ukraine. Many of you have seen us at various hang gliding events throughout Europe. This year might be a bit different. We have a war in our country provoked by one of the last dictators remaining in the 21st century. His name is Vladimir Putin, his country is Russia.
You may have heard the news about the Russian invasion into Ukraine in the last few days. In fact, this invasion, which for most of you has become evident only now is already lasting more than 8 years when Ukraine has declared the course for joining the EU and when Russia occupied Crimea peninsula and began flooding the eastern parts of Ukraine with modern weapons, special operations forces, supporting pro-Russian separatists. As every war goes it is combined with tons of propaganda, fakes, fraud, blackmail, etc. You can't be wrong comparing this to Nazi anschluss of Austria and annexation of Sudetes in 1938. As you may remember this also caused only the "deep concern" of that day's main political players, which turned to WWII very soon.
Following Hitler's footprints Russia did this trick at least 3 times in modern history: in Moldova in 1991, Georgia in 2008 and now in Ukraine in 2014. Moreover, just like Hitler denied the right for existence for Jews in 1940-ties, Putin denies the right for existence for the Ukrainian nation in 2022! (Yes, you are reading this right, just check his speech from February 21, 2022!).
As for today, more than 150,000 Russian troops are standing on our borders and have already entered the so-called separatist “republics” in Ukraine.
We have received many messages from friends throughout the world, offering support or even shelter if things go really bad. Thank you, friends.
The fact is that we will stay here in Ukraine. We have a stronger army now, so it won't be a milk run for the aggressor. We want to thank the USA, GB, Canada, Poland, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, and Lietuva for the provided weapon systems. This support is worth thousands of words! We are also grateful to all the countries that have provided us with other assistance and promised further support in case of further escalation. Many of you ask how they can support Ukraine personally.
Well, the obvious move is to tell your politics to put more pressure on Russia. Sanctions are fine but armed support of Ukraine is much better. You may see that "deep concern" is not working now, neither it was in 1939. This may sound pathetic but Ukraine stands for the all democratic world now. If we fall then comes the turn of other ex-Soviet bloc countries, starting from Poland, Baltic states, Czech Republic, Hungary. This is declared by Putin. Russia is already playing on minor internal tensions inside the EU and the rest of the world, donating “easy to sell” politics and parties.
Second, more simple help option - you can financially support the volunteer division "Hospitallers" ("Госпітальєри"). This division provides the medical evacuation of injured from the battlefield, sets courses of first medical aid for civilians, etc. They are not combatants, if it matters for you for humanistic or religious reasons.
Some of our hang gliding friends are members of this division, so we can be sure that all donations will go for medicines, medical equipment, fuel for medevacs etc.
This is the contacts of the division: https://www.facebook.com/hospitallers/

The Spring Meeting - Friuli Venezia Giulia Trophy, at its 4th edition, is a FAI 2 competition (Hang Gliding class 1, class 5, Sport class) which takes place in a flight zone well known by European pilots. It is also part of the big flying area which have hosted the XXII Hang Gliding World Championship.
The flight area is mainly in the foothill but, depending on weather conditions, it is possible to fly also in the Alps and in the flatland. There are different takeoffs; two of them are in Slovenia and can be chosen in case of changeable weather.

The weather turns
competition|Friuli Venezia Giulia Trophy 2019|weather
https://airtribune.com/springmeeting-2019/blog__day_5
Pilots are already on takeoff. Weather seems perfect today, so we expect to go in the air early in the afternoon for a consistent task.
Because pilots weren't assigned Flymaster trackers through Airtribune, live tracking on Airtribune doesn't work for this competition. Follow the pilots on the Flymaster web site.
The task has started: https://lt.flymaster.net/bs.php?grp=2636
You can see the Replay from yesterday here: https://airtribune.com/play/4032/2d at the two times faster speed (compared to the Flymaster web site). The Airtribune replay uses the IGC files found here: https://airtribune.com/springmeeting-2019/results. The Airtribune Replay user interface is vastly superior to the Flymaster Playback user interface. It does have a problem with screen clutter on cell phones.

Racing pod for your cell phone
Use with XCSoar and other flight instrument software
AltAir Vario|Facebook|Oleg Matvieie
https://www.facebook.com/oleg.matvieiev/posts/1420960317935496
Oleg Matvieie writes:
New racing pod for Smartphones is now available!
Made especially for users of #XCSoar, #XCTrack, and AltAIR programs.
The Racing Pod provides:
1. Use of any Smartphone up to 5,5” screen (max phone size 83x154 mm)
2. Built-in 10000 mAh power bank to keep Smartphone charged all day
3. Possibility to change batteries (3x18650 type Li-Ion cells are used)
4. Possibility to use any upright/speed bar mounts including Flytec/Brauniger
5. Possibility to use Smartphone power and volume buttons
6. Possibility to use external Bluetooth sensor like #BlueFlyVario or #AltAIR
7. #AltAIR sensor from Evgen Lysenko and AltAIR android app also adds a possibility to use hardware keys for in-flight control, Pitot tube for measuring airspeed, live tracking, leader chasing and many other cool features (the program itself is available here for free: http://altair.no-ip.org/downloads.html)
The prices are: The Racing Pod (shell only) – 70 euro
The Racing Pod POWER with power bank board, batteries and charging cable – 85 euro
The Racing Pod AltAIR with power bank, control keys and #AltAIR Bluetooth sensor with Pitot tube – 160 euro.
Standalone AltAIR bluetooth vario with Pitot tube by Evgen Lysenko – 75 euro.
Shipping, mount and Smartphone price is not included.
2. External batteries are stored inside the pod right under the phone. Actually now it's a Xiaomi 10000 pcb board and 3 batteries in a battery slot.
3. To change batteries you have to unscrew a plate behind the phone and to change them.
5. Some programs (XCTrack and AltAIR at least) can use Smartphone's buttons to control the program. Power button is also useful if you need to restart a phone - you know, shit happens.
6. Bluetooth sensors like Blue Fly Vario or AltAIR offer accurate altitude and vario measurement. Their barometric sensor is always more precise than one in a Smartphone (if it has barometric sensor at all). With such a sensor the phone reads altitude and speed data from Bluetooth, charges via USB.
To my experience the best and secure way to mount a Smartphone is to use a silicone or plastic cover available for almost any type of Smartphone and to mount it on Velcro.
Pitot tube is a part of AltAIR bluetooth sensor which is inside the pod. The buttons are connected to AltAIR Bluetooth sensor and can be assigned by user in AltAIR android app. I personally use one button to power onof the Bluetooth sensor, second - to switch vario loudness, third one to scroll the waypoints in a task and another two to zoom in/out a map.
