We have committed tug resources for forty pilots

Gregg "Kim" Ludwig|US Nationals 2013

The new 2013 US Nationals web site: http://ozreport.com/2013USNationals.php

We have commitments from Russell and Lori Brown and Gregg Ludwig for four tugs.  To make it fair and convenient for all pilots we hope to limit the number of pilots to tugs to 10 to 1. If we brought in more tugs (which we would have to go fishing for) and reduced the number of pilots per tug, that would increase the towing fees, which some feel (perhaps rightly) are already costly enough.  If we have a few extra pilots, that reduces the cost per pilot, although there are variable costs, gasoline, for example.

If we have a large group of pilots that want to come to the competition and we've already filled all the spots, we will contact other tugs owners and pilots to get additional tugs.

Russell and Lori have full responsibility for the towing and Lori will be collecting towing fees.  We still have not received a total or per pilot fee from them yet.  We hope to have that very soon so that we can make all pilots aware of the total cost of towing.

If we can do any towing on the 3rd, Lori will charge separately for tows on the 3rd. Jim Little, the airport manager usually frowns on aerotowing on the 3rd.

We currently have 26 pilots signed up and 21 have paid.  If we only have 25 pilots (three are Sport pilots) then I will have Russell and Lori bring two tugs.  If we have thirty pilots, they will bring three tugs.  If we have more than 35 pilots, Gregg Ludwig will come.

Given the high occupancy rates at the hotels in Big Spring due to the oil/fracking boom, we have been unable to receive comped rooms that we would use to house Russell and Lori and the tug pilots, thereby reducing the tow fees.  So the tow fees would be a little higher then would otherwise be the case.
