2018 Big Spring Nationals

The task committee came up with a plan to take us around or away from the storm, but the storms would not have it.
Big Spring after very little rain if any since December has suddenly received quite a bit of it.
We all went south down the taxi way to the launch area and setup (or hauled out gliders down from the hangars).
The cu-nimbs were developing all around us and the safety committee was meeting to determine if we could fly. The weird thing was that we could be the lines of cu's in the distance but they weren't showing up on MyRadar (http://www.myradar.com/). Some people were more convinced by the phone App then what their eyes are clearly telling them when they looked out to the west toward the first turnpoint.
Finally the phone app caught up with reality and they saw the gap between the airport and the first turnpoint fill in with red on their phones. The task was called and then the rain in the distance started.
Soon the gust front came as we got all the gliders broken down or back into the hangars. Not long after that the rains came and it pours down hard. 0.40 inches of rain recorded at the airport over half an hour.
We'll see if tomorrow is a repeat or not.
