Sailplane meets near Quest Air in 2018

Get ready to share the air with gliders from Seminole Glider Port

Quest Air|Ron Gleason|sailplane|Wilotree Park

Ron Gleason «xcflying» writes:

Seniors – March 10 through 16. Sixty five old farts coming out of hibernation to remember how to soar and race again. Typical tasks are under three hours.

Sailplane Grand Prix – Second year for this event, March 26 through April 1. Up to twenty 18 meter gliders, maximum 11 pounds per square foot, racing around a given course with turnpoints of .25 mile diameter in size. Lots of gaggles and side by side racing, in 2017 the pilots reported that they enjoyed flying with the hang gliders a couple of days.

18 Meter Nationals – April 29 through May 10. Up to forty five 18 meter fully ballasted gliders, maximum weight 1350 pounds, blasting around the Florida skies. Tasks up to 4.5 hours and average speeds should be 85+ MPH

The new(er) management is very eager to hold contests and keep growing the sport with their training.

The 2018 Green Swamp Sport Klassic takes place the week after the Seniors and ends just before the Grand Prix. https://airtribune.com/2018-green-swamp-sport-klassic/info/details__info.

The 2018 Quest Air Nationals takes place just two weeks before the 18 meter Nationals at Seminole Glider Port (nine miles south of Wilotree Park). https://airtribune.com/2018-quest-air-national-series/info/details__info
