Thanks for plugging the 35th annual Hang Gliding Spectacular at Kitty Hawk Kites this May 18-21.  As usual, the Fun Zone will be in full swing, and we’ll commit low and slow aviation that is the root of all hang gliding.  It’s always a kick-in-the-pants good time, but this year will be a bigger deal than usual: We’re putting together what promises to be the biggest instructor reunion ever.

We’ve contacted over 120 current and former KHK instructors, and most of them are making plans to attend.  Former KHK instructors include such luminaries as Jim Johns (formerly of Western Hang Gliding in Marina, CA), John Ryan (formerly of the Hang Gliding Center of San Diego), Matt Tabor of Lookout Mountain, Steve Wendt of BlueSky, as well as past national champions Tom Haddon, Paris WilliamsParis Williams and Bo HagewoodBo Hagewood.  Even famous meet-head David GloverDavid Glover was a KHK instructor.  The instructor alumni web site is http://www.khkalumni.com/.  Hopefully the word will spread and your readers will help us locate more of the 200 or so former instructors still listed as “missing.”

The weather has improved.  We have been overshadowed by the weather from Manilla but now the sun has come out and the birds are in full flight.  This weekend past has shown some promise of things to come with 127km flights for several of the entrants.  Some of the paragliders also got over a 100km.

There is still moisture around from the rain and tambourine has been pumping with some nice cu's.  Our lead pilot, Warren Simmonsen, has been the first to complete each section of the challenge and is now working hard at improving the flights he has.  There are a few weeks remaining with Sat 14 April being the last scorable day, so its still undecided.  Easter weekend is around the corner which should help the cause with extra flying days some of the entrants are planning extra time off work to make the most of it.

Working and whistling N28 31.982 ,W081 50.800 ,Quest Air(Quest Air)

The east winds continue.  The Quest Air community is out in force on a beautiful, cloudy but windy day to tackle the various tasks around the flight park.  Kevin CarterKevin Carter is here testing out his new Wills Wing T2 - 144 - he loves it and will fly this size glider instead of the big one (154), as he did before.  He weighs 175 pounds.

Peter was sprucing up the outdoor showers with new wood.  A bunch of us got together serially and built a new clothes line.  Jamie and Lisa worked on the upcoming Flytec meets.  I continued working on my new scoring system: http://www.naviter.si/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,158/topic,2613.0  I was great to just ask folks for help as the clothes line project progressed and get a hand just when I needed it.  It went up quick.  The old one came down even faster.

We also worked as a group on getting the big antenna working again.  It's not there yet, but the the area is still a fast hot spot.  The individuals in the Quest Air community take responsibility for doing what is required as they see it in front of them.

Perhaps by the weekend the winds will die down and we'll have a chance to fly.
