Why were the rigids so slow? 52 31 25.61 N, 13 24 42.82 E, Berlin(Berlin)

There are much more and more recent information available:  http://www.germanflatlands.de/news/index.php.  There’s a constantly updated news service: even the pilots can send in via short message service (SMS) their news, which are directly shown on the website.

Task 2 92km for flex and rigid

Just looking at the times its interesting to see that the flexes were a LOT faster.  5 of the 9 rigids took 2hrs or more, the 11 flexes did it in 1hr 44min to 1hr 16min.

The weather looks ok for today but dire for the next few days, I hope they can get some more flying in.

Here some info from Corinna's blog :

"Tomorrow the German Open starts with the first task at the airfield “Altes Lager”, a former Russian army airfield, close to Jüterbog (not Göteborg, as I called it).  We can hopefully fly one or the other task between Aug.  21.-26.  The first time that a German Open takes place in the flatlands with towing!  And also the first since Tegelberg days that a German Open takes place in Germany..."

I was at Altes Lager for the German Flatlands competition 3 weeks ago.  See http://www.germanflatlands.de for a picture of the airfield, a great setup and location.  Nice to see that "swords can be turned into ploughshares" and that the legacy of the division of Europe can provide such a good hang gliding and paragliding location.

It looks like there was a slow gaggle of 5-6 rigids, that might explain why the rigids were slower than the flexes.
