This is what we woke up to this morning at only 250' above sea level. Only five
days ago, a couple of flex wings did a 100 km out and return with a 5000'+
cloudbase, and the day before that an Atos did a good size triangle. Is it
snowing in Florida?
The glider is too big and the pilots weigh too little for it to
do any good
Jacques Bott is one of my sources and has seen the new 15.4 meter
span ATOS at the AIR factory. It doesn't concern him because he feels that
heavier pilots that now have an advantage over him on the "regular" ATOS (he is
thin and not that tall) will now have the same disadvantage that he has (lower
wing loading). Of course, they can ballast up (Jacques does have a lead vest)
and get back the advantage that they may have lost with the lower wing loading.
Maybe the big glider is only for pilots as big as Felix. Maybe Robert Reisinger
and Alex Ploner won't be the pilots flying the big ATOS. Maybe AIR is saying to
the French pilots, and to Jacques, that the "regular" (145 sq. ft.) is for the
"smaller" pilots.
We still don't have the sail area for the new glider. We also don't know if it
has been on the DHV truck or not.
Strong winds out of the northeast abate a few knots(Florida Ridge)
The forecast for the afternoon is 15 mph with gust to 20 mph on
the ground. The forecast for the boundary layer winds is 20 knots at 11 AM, 22
knots at 2 PM and 24 knots at 5 PM.
The winds are measured at 14 mph in the field and 21 mph gusts.
The meet has been extended by one day to Friday. It appears to be quite possible
that we will be flying tomorrow.
