Corinna Schwiegershaunsen: I wanted to hit two records. One of them was the free distance, a 403.5 km mark that was to be surpassed by at least one kilometer. At the same time, I wanted to break the record we call the 'declared distance goal', in which the pilot previously declares a specific point wheres he will arrive. For this it needed to reach a predetermined point, 367 km from the takeoff. So if I could fly 405 km with a goal previously declared and homologated, I could overcome the two marks at once. This seemed like a good opportunity.
Using GPS coordinates, I had been trying to fly from Tacima, in Paraíba, to Juatama, which is the official landing for the Quixada ramp in Ceará. It ended up being a lot harder than I imagined and it took a long time to get there.
In fact it was my Brazilian friend, Marcelo Abbott, who suggested that I go to Tacima to try the world distance record, which had not been broken in 16 years. First I thought, "Will it?" I had never thought of doing anything like this, so he told me that some people had already performed flights larger than 400 km at that location. I thought about it calmly and thought maybe it might be a good idea. I booked four weeks for the attempts, to travel, to know the region and to prepare myself. It was not easy, but I got here and was able to fly with my friends.
