A good number at goal and injuries out on the course line

It was a 126 kilometer task today ending up not too far from Valle de Bravo. The XCSkies - NAM forecast showed over development to the east of Valle but far enough away to allow for a goal just to the north east. The forecast was right and the local knowledge about how to interpret the forecast was also correct. The west wind (afternoon sea breeze) kept the clouds to the east.

The forecast didn't take into account the cirrus clouds though. So that kept some pilots from making the course and getting to goal.

About ten or fifteen pilots made goal including Suan, Zac, Jonny, Christian, Filippo, Gordon, Mario, Franz, Paris, Davide and others. It was a one km goal cylinder and the landing area was outside the goal cylinder, which may have confused some.

Joerg and Corinna were not able to get high enough to make the second turnpoint safely. There was a large area of no landing areas. They both came back an landed at the large flat open (except for the huge sets of power lines on the side) set of fields at goal.

It looks like Karel, the meet director, is going to count the second day using a six kilometer goal cylinder. Everyone who made one of the two goals is included in the cylinder and no one not making either of the two goal is not. Jonny has registered an official complaint backed by Corinna (who didn't want it mentioned that she supported the complaint). We'll see what happens next.

Protests are possible and counter complaints and protests are possible.

At least two incidents today. A British pilot has an arm injury (at least). Broken or dislocated. A Korean pilot has a head injury near the jaw. Airlifted to Toluca. Meet organizers Miguel and Claudia are on their way to the hospital in Toluca. He didn't have medical insurance and refused to purchase it from the meet organizers. This may not be allowed next year. That is you must have either proof of medical insurance or purchase it.

There have been numerous landing incidents and pilots opting not to fly. Greg Dinauer has been quite sick and may have gone to the doctor today. James Stinnett didn't fly today. Larry Bunner had a great day yesterday, but I didn't see him in goal today.

Jamie Shelden was downloading pilots' GPSes at goal, as a volunteer. I asked around about how pilots at goal were feeling about the task safety wise. The vast majority was happy with the safety aspects but a few (including Jonny) were adamant that it was unsafe (turbulence and lack of landing fields).

Should have results around 10 PM central time.

Suan winning the day:
